SIP systems are a superior choice over site framed lumber structures. When it comes to performance, through the entire lifecycle of a building, Premier SIPs are the smartest framing system choice in every way. Start here to learn why:
What are SIPs ?
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high-performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy-efficient and cost-effective. This allows you to build faster, stronger, greener.

Build Faster
Projects install faster when Premier SIPS are delivered to the jobsite pre-cut and ready for assembly. Factory fabrication saves time in the field, and delivers precision-engineered panels that can save days of sub-work throughout the construction timeline. Without bowed lumber, straight and plumb surfaces enable faster installation of cabinets, doors, windows, millwork, tile, and floor surfaces. When you eliminate the imperfections of site-framed lumber, everything just comes together faster.
SIPs are a factory-fabricated panel that consists of a solid engineered insulation core that is structurally laminated between two high-grade structural facings. In one product, a SIP provides three essential functions (Structure, Insulation, & Air barrier) that are crucial to any building’s structure. The structural integrity of a building is highly dependent on the quality of the materials used in construction. SIPs are strong, sturdy, and durable.
The insulating foam core in SIPs has excellent insulating properties, providing an efficient thermal barrier that reduces heat transfer through the walls (known as thermal bridging and convection where heat rises and falls). This reduces the need for additional insulation, which can be time-consuming and expensive. Large continuous solid core SIPs have very few joints and act as an air barrier, sealing the building envelope tightly to prevent air leaks.
Air leaks can also lead to moisture problems, which directly affect the environments – indoor air quality (IAQ), and can lead to mold growth, rot, and other structural issues.

More Sustainable
A SIP building envelope provides continuous insulation, is extremely airtight, allows for better control over indoor air quality, reduces construction waste, and helps save natural resources. Life cycle analysis has shown that SIP homes have a tremendous positive environmental impact by reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions throughout the home’s life cycle. SIP designs can save 45% more CO2 with a 5.1-year energy payback and a 3.8-year greenhouse gas payback compared to stick framing examples
Less Energy
Building with SIPs creates a superior building envelope with high thermal resistance and minimal air infiltration. Oak Ridge National Laboratory research on whole-wall R-value shows that a 4-inch SIP wall rated at R-14 outperforms a 2 × 6 stick framed wall with R-19 fiberglass insulation.
Reduced Job Site Waste
SIPs are made from insulating foam cores (often expanded polystyrene – EPS) laminated to panel faces (typically oriented strand board – OSB). These high-efficiency insulated panels are manufactured in a controlled setting and are cut to the precise sizes required for each job. They are delivered to the jobsite job-ready to allow builders to install the roof, wall and floor panels without the need to cut, frame or trim excessive amounts of lumber. SIPs can reduce jobsite material waste by 60% compared to buildings constructed with dimensional lumber.
